| "Giro Dolomiti" - the classic in the Alps
|
The excursion around the wildly romantic Lienz Dolomites leads through the most environmentally-friendly region in Europe and thus is a special cycling experience for body, spirit and soul.
Already more than 50 years ago in 1951 when the Lienz Josef Gliber won the first Dolomite Cycling Race in the folding tire Class, the organisers at that time spoke of a true classic. In 1986, with this first tourist race around the Lienz Dolomites, this event was also opened to the broad public. Since then, the Dolomite Cycling Race has been considered to be one of the most popular marathon events in Europe. The special flair, the great excitement of the people and the perfect organisation again and again give each participant a breath of big “Giro”. The Dolomite Cycling Race has thus already become a legend for many cycling enthusiasts. |
| “Extreme” Dolomite Cycling Tour – in the footsteps of the “Giro d`Italia” Already in 1994, a stage of the “Giro d`Italia” went via the Pustertal panoramic road to Lienz. Now, the organisers of the Dolomite Cycling Tour have once again succeeded in pushing the “Giro d`Italia” to eastern Tyrol. On 29 May 2007, a "Giro stage" once again went via the Pustertal panoramic road to Lienz. Thus, the fans of the Dolomite Cycling Tour can once again get a whiff of the great “Giro” in 2008. Three will again be much lettering on the asphalt making reference to the best professionals of the 90th “Giro d`Italia.” In the past 12 years, one could see many of the great cyclists such as Michael Indurain, Marco Pantani, Jan Ulrich or Lance Armstrong – whether at the “Giro d`Italia” or the “Giro del Trentino” – upon the Pustertal panoramic road.
Please keep in mind: The 21st Dolomite Cycling Tour is limited to 2,000 participants! Thus, it is recommended that you register right away! |
